The two events that I would like to go to (given the chance) are a national rally and the St.Omer fly in.Yep! both on the same weekend this year,Brilliant!
I have an unbroken record for attending St.Omer, having been to every one, so do I turn my back on that and my friends for national pride and loyalty to the LAA ?

J.C. Can't please all the people all of the time to misquote some eminent geezer! If the wx is nice, you could do both, now that does make a good week-end (I've done it before, France first, then the Rally - you really feel it's been a great flying week-end then).

Take a look at the pics of my tent on the St.Omer website! I can't do both!
Its not a matter of flying,I could easily do both in a morning in my plane, its about the atmosphere and not flying whilst under the affluance of incerhol.

I've looked at the photos....... the only pic that seems to fill the bill involves a Union Jack tent, some flowers, several gnomes and a weathercock, am I getting warm? :? Didn't realise you were a Jodel man J.C. - I see Luke Roberts made it in his D9 (I tried to buy it from him, but have since acquired another). Well, it must be a difficult choice, I sympathise.......but do tell about the Gnomes? Actually I see the Vans Airforce motif now!

I agree with John. We need to get one of them moved.

Its also the bi-annual Old Timer fly-in at Hahnweide/Kircheim-Tech in Germany that I usually attend, alternating with another vintage aircraft fly-in at Brodhead Wisconsin. And its the Italian homebuilders fly-in weekend too, always wanted to go to that, but it always clashes. And I think the big microlight event at Blois!
However, I guess all of these inc St Omer are not attended by the majority of LAA members and whatever weekend is chosen, its going to clash with something!
Personally Id prefer the second w/e in Sept, if we are going to be in Sept. Or go back to the first weekend in July! The move being done as the weather now seems to be better in Sept and the last 4 or 5 first w/e in Julys havent been great.

It was announced at NC today that Sywell was given the green light by EC yesterday (Friday). So they will be a 2009 national rally and it will be on 4-6th Sept 2009.

John, what chance do you think we have of getting St Omer to tweak their date? UK aircraft are a fair proportion of their attendees and after this year's wash out we really do want to support them..

Excellent news, I believe that this will be one of the most important events for the LAA in 2009. If display space costs can be keep minimal, keep the whistles and bells minimal, and we get plenty of companies display their wares, then we will have a recipe for success.

Steve,it may be possible as I am sure a lot of them used to come to the rally, but I believe they have some Civic input and also bear in mind that the date is relevent to them as it is an anaversary, whereas ours isn't.
However I will contact the guys at St.Omer to see if anything can be done.

David, see Steves comment above. That makes it a certainty, not a possibility. I also understand that discounted advance tickets will be soon available.

Very good news John, thanks for doing that and thanks to St Omer for their flexibility.
Like you did this year, we will drive even if we can't fly.
