altimeter subscale magnification

I have a 2 inch Winter altimeter in a Shadow. The subscale is a struggle to see and you cannot lean forwards in order to get closer. Is it possible to obtain a small lens to magnify just the subscale?

I got a selection of magnifiers from the pound shop somewhere and I'm sure one would do the job. Could hack out a bit big enough I'm sure.

Ah the joys of having a panel down at your feet, I remember it well.
