What's a whiffletree?

Page 46 of this month's mag (another excellent read, Brian) refers to whiffletrees...so what are these then!?

Hi Nick, I am sure one of the engineers can give a much better description than I, but my understanding is that a whiffletree is a structure (usually of tubes) that allows loads to be applied to parts of an airframe to assess its strength.
