Could someone tell me if a banner add across the top of this page is available or unwanted?
If it is available it would be a revenue generator and we would like to look at the opportunity!

Most BB's either have top or side advertising - it doesn't bother me at all and sometimes is very useful provided that the adverts are appropriate and relevant.

this particular type of BB software does not directly support banners, and would require quite a bit of work to make that possible.
It would be fairly easy to embed the BB page inside a wrapper page that supported banners.
It could provide useful income.

Ah! That would explain why forums.flyer.co.uk who use the same software can do it

I agree with Mike. If it's relevant and helps generate some revenue for LAA go for it.

You can just set your browser to block them anyway...

The answer might be more prosaic. 273 members is hardly likely to set the advertiser's hearts a-flutter. Flyer has just a few more (3930 when i looked). The mighty PPRuNe is being coy and has hidden the member list but claims over 180,000.

Mike - I did not say it was impossible, it's just not out of the tin functionality.
It would require a bit of work, and having played with phpbb in the past, I can tell you it can be painful and given your observation regarding the limited audience it may be difficult to justify the effort.
If you look carefully at the flyer forum, you will see that in fact, it is implemented in the way that I suggested, ie the forum is in a frame inside a conventional web page
