Electronic Flight Plans

Post by John Dean » Sat Mar 15, 2008 8:32 am

Some people may remember being telephoned a couple of years or so ago about whether flight plan filing from the computer would be a good idea. It looks as if it is about to happen and you can register on the web site here.

Reading the "Quick Start Guide", it appears that each person will have their own AFTN address and the flight plan will go into the AFTN system without further human intervention.

Having registered for the service, I received an automated email response saying that :-

The system is now in operation and we are concentrating on migrating aerodromes and companies who are currently on legacy systems, which are due to cease. The timescale for GA pilots going onto the system is expected to be in early May. Please be assured that we will handle your application on a strictly "first come first served" basis and you will be contacted in due course. Your patience is appreciated

Interesting times
