build insurance

Post by rans6andrew » Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:07 pm

I searched through the previous topics and found only one recommendation for insurance to cover the aircraft while building from a kit. Has anyone a good word to say about anyone other than H R Jennings? I need to cover the kit while it is being delivered from the UK agent, the whole of the airframe up to the point of a permit to test being issued and while it is going to the spray shop etc. who should I call?

Thanks,

Rans6.....(Andrew Cattell?)

Might be worth giving OnRisk a call.

I found them very helpful when wanting to change my specific risk needs and I'd very surprised if they haven't got a "project risk" insurance package available which could be tailored to your needs if necessary.

I tried several insurers and Jennings was the only one with a build insurance at a good price. All the rest offered a premium that was close to the cost of flying insurance!

Jennings does it for me.

I used Onrisk for my build insurance. It was competitive and it allowed a year on year increase in value etc and then a low pain conversion to a flying aircraft part way through a year’s insurance.

Does this 'build' insurance cover tools and equipment?

We used Onrisk during the build stage of the Youth Build a Plane 2 project. They continue to be our insurers, at very competative rates, now that we are flying.

Jim.
