Fly in at Henham Park 11th May

Post by John Hill » Sat Apr 05, 2008 6:06 pm

I am the flying co-ordinator for the fifth Halesworth Lions Club Wings and Wheels Fly in near Southwold on the beautiful Suffolk Heritage Coast.

This year we have 600m of grass oriented 25/07. Hundreds of vintage and veteran vehicles, and a display by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Team Guinot.

Come and join us on the 11th May. All LAA and vintage types welcome, no landing fees (although we will wave a charity bucket at you)

PPR is essential and the pilots' brief is e-mailed with your PPR.

Total muppet! I forgot that bit. PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send the pilots' brief, my phone number for the event is on the brief. PPR is fine right up to the event and as many aircraft as possible are welcome.

Exactly my sort of flying destination, by the sound of it, too...

Surely? this is a fly-in, not restricted to LAA members only! Unless of course your 90 year old Granny owns half of the aeroplane and not an LAA member - in that case you (the plane) cant have a permit to fly.

LAA members with C of A aircraft are more than welcome. We have a couple of PA28's and some C150's coming. If the pilot is happy with and competent on 600m of grass then the more the merrier.

The old runway was a bit of a horror and I severely restricted movements to those I either knew or who were recomended by another for their abilities. (a c**k up in front of a big crowd is a very bad thing) The new runway avoids the bomb crater on site (created by the elder brother of president John F Kennedy) is better orientated and has clear approach and departure paths.

Lets face it we all fly. I've only just bought a permit aircraft for restoration after flying for 27 years, my day to day mounts all have C of A so I will always welcome C of A aircraft.

My thanks to all of you who attended Henham Park yeaterday.

82 aircraft were parked and the standards of airmanship were superb.

A lot of money was raised for charity and the day was a huge success.

It was a really enjoyable day, John. How you managed to ensure wonderful weather and a good event beats me.

Look forward to visiting again next year.

Sorry I couldn't make it.

I made the fatal mistake of taking my wings off a couple of months ago to clean up the struts and only managed to get them back on today! I'm missing all this superb weather. The T31 will be ready to fly in a couple of days ... so sorry in advance as the weather is now gaurenteed to change for the worse
