I understand the body itself can produce alcohol from its own biological processes, and that is the reason for the small but finite amount permitted.

Current UK restriction is 1/4 of the drink-drive limit. One STELLA late in the evening and you are over the fly limit the next morning, IIRC.

It is a mercy that the innocent party in this, the student, survived.
We have to hope that they made a full recovery as the AAIB haven't (quite rightly, in my opinion) reported about this.

Due to fermentation of certain foods you can get some alcohol in your blood; these are very very small amounts and afar from the minimum level of 20mg/100ml.

You need more than one Stella the night before to get you over the limit the next day.

A pint of Stella is about 2.5 units; your body clears about a unit per hour.
