It is lack luster... and hard to use is old hat design ! and it need s a vitamin injection

The CAA's site is more fun than this ! Do pilots suffer with this open toe with socks ! web site information sorry it's not a forward thinking interesting I want to come here and sell my bits FIND OUT INFORMATION ! Aircraft ! International I live in a Flat in Peckham and drive a three wheeler ! come on Guys get a life how do you get new people interested in this ....... thick gravy!

........ LAA aircraft are the muts nuts ! Cheap! Sorry inexpensive to operate and maintain...the flying of the future ..... how can the CAA take you seriously if your site is a like Paint drying ! Yawn football cricket zzzzzzzzzzzzz MAKE THIS SITE BUZZZZZ !

I expect My post will be deleted again this is a locked up I want your money but don't offer a service so nobody comes to look!!! Yes look not everybody wants a permit! And unless they need a permit renewal! AFORS have more hits than this site ! IT should be you ! you should be AFORS ! With Permit engeneering it's Sorry so Boring.

Nigel, yes the website is in dire need of a major revamp, has been for too long. I hope that is going to happen very soon, we certainly want it to and the plan is to make it far more attractive to potential members by telling the real story about the fun and affordability of LAA flying.

Nigel, though in part I agree with you, this subject has been done to death on other threads and we are awaiting to revamp before we comment further.

Raleigh Runabout ooooh, I used to have one of them. Used to scare the sh*t out of me a road junctions trying to pedal hard to get into gaps in the traffic :shock:

And yes I do have a life

I sat chuckling like a drain at Nigels post. It's good to see that one can criticise and chuck in a bit of humour as well.
I don't actually think that LAAs website is boring , I suppose that as an approved organisation it walks something of a tight-rope in keeping the CAA appeased. HangarChat has been a bit quiet lately, but it's probably still reeling from mass-debate that followed the 'is the forum dead' posting. By the way Nigel , how on earth do you find time to visit ChatForums with all those projects you list at the bottom of your post ?

Strip operator in Sussex, yesterday cycled 2 x 9 miles to and from it, flew 2 hrs in 447 Rans to remote grid ref Hampshire Microlight Flying Club meet beyond Trowbridge, then another two hrs back.
P.C. (naturally) RansMail, m/c'g and newest toy an inflateable kayak for Sussex river exploration.

In fact hardly able to spend time inventing spurious guff for forum addicts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry if it sound like I am repeating previous discussions, but .... I come on to the LAA site for entertainment Information items for sale items wanted and get so frustrated with no real help information or change just the same old...... well moan over I look forward to the new fresh site but the LAA are not alone in web rubbish

Most clubs web sites are dire at the moment lack of cash lack of members no new interest and few new members coming to fly! sail! ride your bike! I know the LAA does a great job in so many areas and I am impressed with the help I have received but web design web layout pictures video links to facebook twitter list of other useful sites, parts help and simplicity.

I do worry that limits on parts wants and sales is limited to £100 all adverts should be free and no price limit aircraft for sale should be free
I understand help in all other fields has to be charged eg permits and engineers inspectors

As a newbie to the site (albeit a very oldie to light aviation...) perhaps my opinion shouldn't count for much, but what might really liven up the site is a really thriving AFORS-style market for aircraft and bits - perhaps firmly restricted to individuals rather than businesses, and with good anti-scammer safeguards.

Perhaps like many people, I always devour the LAA mag on arrival but can't wait to get to the back pages to see what's up for sale....but of course, AFORS has made so many inroads into that marketplace (and doesn't need 2 month's leadtime) so the advertised pickings are now pretty sparse. For that reason, LAA mag wouldn't have too much to lose, if LAA sponsored a really good online aircraft sales and parts/fleamarket area, which drew people to the general site ?

I have now increased the value for the free ad service in the mag to £100, as suggested on the forum and hope it will encourage a few more members to take advantage of it.
We'll certainly look very closely at having an online classifieds when we get the new website up and running too. In fact please do throw in any ideas you have on what you want on the new site and we'll do our best to accommodate them.

Read the above and laughed my head off until I remembered that I used to ride around the streets of South London on a Cyclemaster.

Getting back on thread, the LAA site is on the whole OK and I'd hate to see any massive remodelling of it.

As long as things remain easy to find I wouldn't object to a bit of tarting up i.e. graphics, photos but no more than that!

I'm thinking you already have this fully covered but you did ask for input:

Back Room:

1) The new site MUST use a proper CMS (Content Management System), and for this there must be sensible Page Templates. Penny and others will be able to do a much better job if they are given the right tools.

2) Spend most of the time and effort (and probably money) on getting the templates right. Don't get locked out of being able to develop the templates (probably using a template specialist).

Front of House:

3) The entry point to the site should be acting much more as an LAA shop window, and needs less text and more images. The other main reason for the web site (to carry technical content) should be at lower levels, and can be entirely text if needs be.

The internet in general favours the exchange of ideas, why not see how other organisations do this?

4) It is essential that LAA commissions a design agency to get the look and feel right. Getting the right agency at the right price is the hard part.

What 'sales and marketing' images does the LAA have at its disposal? There must be literally thousands available judging by the excellent content of the LAA mag in recent years.

5) I think the Forum itself should be discussed as a separate thread away from the web site itself, not least because there is a lot that remains unsaid by LAA itself.

Isn't Youtube a wonderfull source of information. I've just been to have a look at "stewart systems covering" on how to apply fabric to aircraft steel framework using "non toxic" glue. I wish I had seen that before I went and spent an astronomical £650 on made up sleeves for mine. I might just seek approval yet to refabric to the system I saw on Youtube.

Would it be possible to understand if we are subbing the work out (or which elements) and to who? I understand that you do not know when the new site will be live yet but when will you know the date? I assume contracts are signed? I appreciate some of this may be business sensitive in the short term but if the site is due this year most of this must be sorted?
