Goodwood

Enjoyed a pleasant visit to the Breakfast club this Sunday..a really enjoyable event. This months LAA magazine has got it wrong theres no discount for LAA members on breakfast club days or any other day.I paid up the rather hefty £18.09 landing fee in good grace as its a very enjoyable couple of hours to walk round the classic cars on breakfast club days.On an ordinary day I think its rather a lot for a simple grass airfield.!! Hi Alan, I met the aviation manager at Goodwood when I was there for a vintage fly in a few weeks ago and we spoke about how he might encourage more LAA members to fly-in. We agreed that making the Breakfast Club auto events also a fly-in with an LAA member discount would be a good idea. I followed up with email and have a confirmation from him that LAA members will receive a 50% landing fee discount. I will discuss with him further but clearly there has been a misunderstanding.
There is no Breakfast meeting for July because of the Festival of Speed, so the next opportunity to enjoy one of these events will be August 7th by which time this problem will I hope have been resolved.

Thanks for that Brian I guessed thats what had happened... poor internal communication.Goodwood is rather like many other English stately homes the staff tend to assume the airs and graces of the landed gentry themselves.I musy say I felt like I,d been caught trying to blag the family silver when I mentioned the half price landing fee.A bit like royalty where I,m told us peasants mustn,t mention money whatsoever whilst of course handing plenty of it over.Of course us poor old CofA aircraft owners are not as wealthy as the the new generation of LAA kitplane champagne lifestylers....we have to mind the pennies.Great magazine this month

Alan, I called in at Goodwood this afternoon to have a word with the GA Mgr and passed on your comments posted here and on Flyer BB; I post this on his behalf.

If you e-mail him on rob.wildeboer "at" goodwood.com he will sort out some redress - perhaps a free landing at the next Breakfast Club, to make two at half price - and no doubt offer his sincere apologies for the internal mis-communication of this new initiative.

Rob confirmed to me that yes, visiting LAA members (producing their membership card) will be charged 50% discounted landing fees on both the Sunday of each Breakfast Club 2011 meeting, and the preceding Saturday :D

Unfortunately as my Champ is a Goodwood resident, I shall still be charged at my normal landing fee rate ....

Hi Fellas. Just to add my two pence worth. I've flown in to the breakfast club meet at Goodwood last couple of years, Iv'e always paid half the normal landing fee, inc last month. I have always pre booked' and advised attending the breakfast club event, failing to do this could mean being turned away. Love those cars!!

Rich thanks for that,I wrote the money off on the day! still good that the situation is resolved for the future benefit of the LAA membership.Next time you see the manager please suggest an equivalent donation from the estate to the charity of his choice.I,m actually very happy to pay reasonable landing fees (never use magazine free vouchers ) far too many of our GA fields are struggling marginal businesses. The Goodwood estate of course very obviously does not fall into that category.VBR Alan
