Cheap Fuel

Post by John Price » Thu Nov 17, 2011 4:01 pm

For those that can use it Rochester EGTO now offers unleaded Avgas at £1.79/litre inclusive of VAT.

This is not Mogas but 91UL Avgas.

If you want any further information just give them a call.

John.

Excellent news. Where Turweston and Rochester go, others may follow...

'if you can use it' says John. Most of us can, and legally. Check out the News section of the website (click the LAA logo at the top of page) and you can access the LAA Airworthiness Approval Notice that lists the engines in LAA aircraft that can use UL91, and the EASA documentation for CoA types. Basically anything that is approved for the old 80/87 or Mogas is OK. It is really only a few high compression types that cannot.

Brian

the "few" include most RVs, that's 250 at least.

Accepted there will be many with O-360 engines, but I expect there are at least a reasonable number with O-320 150hp engines - a fair number of 4s and 9s perhaps.

Without going through G-INO, my experience is that there are very few 150hp RVs. Interestingly, the LAA list includes some models of O- and IO-360 rated not above 168hp.

Still, I don't begrudge those who can use cheaper fuel, I just hope that a 100LL replacement I can use appears sooner rather than later.
