Size of a Kitfox (wings folded)

Post by Andy Kennedy » Mon Feb 27, 2012 12:13 am

Just out of curiosity, can you get a wing folded Kitfox in through the door of a standard UK single garage?

Anyone tried it?

I know it was a part of the design brief for the Europa series aircraft.

Depends on the door - seems std UK single door is 7ft but they can vary significantly bepending on builder generosity. That size is insufficient for even some wider cars.

Kitfox folded is approx 7ft 10ins wide so....

........it depends.

Also depends on garage length and height. My advice is to measure one and then your garage!

If you tow anything that wide (although legal) there is significant danger of writing off the aircraft on road signs and other traffic "furniture".

Great video thanks for posting and an excellent way to help sell an aircraft.

Seems the answer is no, but thanks for the help with the dimentions.

My garage door is only 2.1m (6' 10) wide at the narrowest point and about 1.8m (5' 11) high, so a kitfox is too wide.

I liked that video, I learned to fly at Strathaven, nice to see I'm not the only person that bounces down the runway....

Shame I'm too poor to buy a Dynaero MCR01 :(

perhaps you are lucky you didnt have enough money to buy an MCR01 with all the problems they have had lately!
Have you looked at the Escapade I wonder if that is a bit narrower?

about 1.8m (5' 11) high
That's quite a small garage door, and I would suspect you will struggle to find anything that will fit under that.
Can you change the doors to give more height/width? I replaced my up-and-over with hinged doors. Actually I cut the up-and-over in half with a angle grinder and hinged it each side
