Availability of Mogas / UL91: UK, Europe and US - update

Post by 2greens1red » Sun Oct 20, 2013 11:34 am

Are there any reasonably up-to-date sources for location of airfields both in the UK and Europe with a Mogas / UL91 supply?

Thank you.

Hi Richard

I e-mail the member that keeps me updated with the latest airfields but no response so far. Will chase again.

Kind regards
Penny

Many thanks, Penny.

I guess the same question follows for availability of UL91. The Total maps (via links on the LAA site) are a bit out-of-date....

I'll research elsewhere as well and report back.

I'd appreciate any recent info on Mogas / UL91 availability in UK/France/Belgium/Spain/Portugal

The only Mogas list I've found is on UKGA's website: http://goo.gl/2PYJwb which might be out-of-date:

Ashcroft
Beverley
Cambridge
Cromer
Enstone
Ince
Kiewit
Lelystad
Midden Zeeland
Northampton Sywell
Priory Farm
Sandy
Sherburn-in-Elmet
Uetersen
Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green
Yatesbury

and UL91 here: http://goo.gl/4OXQm0

Many thanks.

I often use these maps when planning trips to Germany, Austria. They are reasonably up to date.

Thanks, David - that's useful.

I've just found this database, and not just for fuel: http://goo.gl/0So6fo with info on over 10,000 airfields, though producing only one Mogas site in France, which seems unlikely. Only one in Switzerland and two in Spain, which maybe implies the info is out-of-date. Avgas in Spain apparently varies from €0.50(!) - €3.00 / litre.

This is useful: http://tmdg.co.uk/misc/fuel.php including France and further afield.

Maybe a more practical list for Mogas would show airfields with a garage on-site or in the vicinity (and bicycles for rent?).

Interesting that Germany and Austria are so well-served for Mogas.

I don't have much to offer, but I have flown to and from Southern Italy a few times recently and struggle to find many airfields that have Mogas/UL91.
One place that is quite useful is Dijon Darois. It is well located if you are making a transit and there is a self-service Mogas pump that accepts credit/debit cards. You can be in and out in a few minutes or the club at the other end of the field has facilities and are very helpful, although they don't speak much English.
Another good Mogas stop is Zell am See. The Alps are far easier to fly in than many other mountainous regions in my opinion and the airfield is excellent. It has full modern facilities, and you can even walk to the ski lift from the terminal (or rent a bicycle/moped/car)! They also speak great English.
My final tried and tested Mogas offering is Hilversum. A great place for getting into Amsterdam and very helpful staff.

Hope that helps!

That's really useful - thanks, Tim.

I'm sure there's a lot more info out there, and maybe we could publish the latest info either on the Forum or a page on the LAA website?

Talking to other pilots there are plenty of anecdotal tips about airfields with service stations nearby or on site, which doesn't get published on any of the guides (either paper or web). Opening times, distance to walk etc. would all be relevant.

Regarding France, if http://tmdg.co.uk/misc/fuel.php is correct, then LFEU Bar Le Duc (but w/ends only) could be useful and breaking up the leg to Dijon LFGI routing south, coupled to LFHN Bellegarde.

This is Total's map for UL91 availability at French airfields:

http://www.total.fr/carburants/les-carb ... 91-ul.html

and, in theory, this could be useful for service stations near airfields, by drilling through to villages/sites near airfields:

Some more info on France:

From Francoflyers (thanks): Chartres (LFOR) has a Carrefour Supermarket with petrol a short 10mins walk away.

St Junien (LFBJ) also has a supermarket with fuel which is an even shorter walk.

Also, Saint Exupéry ( http://www.navigeo.org/LF4724 ) has Mogas, plus a Rotax service centre, though (in theory) airfield appears mainly for microlights.

This may be useful for flying east....a chart showing MoGas airfields in Germany, though dated May'15:

Here's a MOGAS / UL91 chart for Germany (dated June 2015): http://goo.gl/fT0zjQ

and a MOGAS chart for Austria (May 2014): http://goo.gl/3Ji5ag

Currently researching Czech Republic and Slovakia, and would appreciate any info.

Thanks.

This is also a possible source for MOGAS airfields: https://goo.gl/PQG0to

Mainly for Germany, Austria, but some Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary.

The same site has wider coverage for AVGAS: https://goo.gl/MbzbjY particularly France.

Just came across a couple of new sources, in case you find yourself across the Pond:

Unleaded Mogas at US airfields: http://goo.gl/jWGT8T

Ethanol-free US 'gas' stations: http://goo.gl/QNGN8H

Hi,
I have a base in Portugal, 80km north of Lisbon on the coast. If you are coming this far I can help with small fields and fuel.
