Revalidating or Renewing?

What a pleasant surprise to see the January edition of the LAA magazine arrive so early in the month. Well done.

May I just check that the article in the "learning to fly" section of the magazine was in fact discussing the route to RENEWING your licence (probably your SEP rating in your lifetime licence) and not in fact about REVALIDATING your licence?

I once read an article which gave a simple way of remembering which was which.
1. Revalidating - Your Rating is still Valid, you just want to extend the validity of the rating.
2. Renewing - Your rating has expired and you want to make it new again.

I'm probably wrong, but just wanted to check.
