Hi Tony,
If it works out cheaper than the kits available over here then I would be interested in more details of the US test solution you are using?

Food dye may be brand specific. Wasn't Dr. Oetker food colour was it? Won't break the bank to try it.

Ian,

I got my test kit from www.fueltestkit.com

I think it was Dr Oetker's that worked the best but I haven't actually tried it myself. I can ask someone who did try that variety of food dye.

Thanks Tony,
Dr Oetker's seems to be a gel, not liquid. Going to try some anyway next time I am shopping.

Hi Ian,

Just double-checked and it is Langdale's food dye. Seems both the "Bright Red" and "Bright Green" work okay. May be difficulty finding it in shops but should be available via Amazon.

Thanks Tony,
I did try Dr Oetker's, which is a gell. Reacted slightly different for each fuel, but not a clear indicator.

I will seek out Langdale's. We have a cake decorating specialist in my town. Any excuse for cake :P
