Project Manager needed

Post by Paul Hendry-Smith » Thu Oct 29, 2015 6:19 pm

Dear All

With the work The Light Aircraft Company are undertaking with the Aviation Skills Partnership, they, ASP have an opening for a Project Engineer, it is a salaried role and would well suit somebody retired from the hands on end of the aviation industry RAF or civil, or somebody from from the engineering industry with a passion for aviation. There are some "ideal candidate requirements" but if you have the necessary skill sets to project manage in line with their requirements I would still give it a bash. If this hits a sweet spot with you and you want to take it further I have detailed below the full job spec and details of who you need to contact.

Regards

Paul

AVIATION SKILLS PARTNERSHIP

The Aviation Skills Partnership is seeking a qualified engineer to manage one of its “Build-a-Plane” projects at the Heathrow Aviation Engineering University Technical College in North West London.
The project: The project comprises the construction, from a factory supplied kit, of a light aircraft (a Sherwood Ranger) by students at the Heathrow Aviation Engineering University Technical College (HAEUTC). The candidate will be responsible for the project management of the project to build the aircraft. The aircraft is to be constructed at the HAEUTC by students, aged from 14-18 years, under the supervision of the UTC’s teaching staff.

The aircraft construction and subsequent operation will be overseen on behalf of the UK Civil Aviation Authority by the Light Aircraft Association.

The Role: The Project Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the project meets its objectives of being completed on time, and within budget and, in liaison with the teaching staff, for ensuring that the work is progressed to a high standard of airworthiness, and is properly incorporated into the UTC curriculum.

The position can be filled either full or part time, subject to the agreed and defined project objectives being completed. However, it is envisaged that the role will need a commitment of at least three days per week.

HAEUTC is located in Northwood Hills, North West London, and is served by the Metropolitan Underground Line.

The Person: The ideal candidate will:
1. Be a qualified aeronautical engineer, holding at least a HND in a relevant discipline and will ideally either have experience in an aircraft manufacturing environment, or hold, or have held CAA/EASA maintenance engineering licences;
2. Have a proven track record of project management;
3. Be able to ensure that the aircraft construction work and all supporting activities (e.g.
creation and management of stores, parts procurement, management of tooling etc) is
conducted in accordance with good aeronautical practice;
4. Be able to support the UTC’s teaching staff in developing and implementing procedures
that ensure students gain an appropriate level of engineering hand skills, knowledge and
understanding before being allowed to work on the aircraft construction.
5. Manage the liaison between the HAEUTC, the kit manufacturer (The Light Aircraft Company), the Light Aircraft Association (LAA), the Aviation Skills Partnership, and any
other partners identified during the course of the project.
6. Ideally have some experience of working in the education sector, and
7. Be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
