Sad news to today that Captain Eric (Winkle) Brown died today.
Yet another of that WW2 generation that we will never see the likes of again!

Thank you Gerry for letting everyone outside the area know about this. I was aware of some of his exploits but never imagined just how great his achievements had been. A truly fantastic aviator, the likes of which our world will never see again. Blue skies.

A programme about Captain Brown is on BBC2 (except Wales for some reason) Friday 26 Feb at 1900hrs. It's a repeat from a month or so ago. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a lecture he gave. What a pilot and what a gentleman. For those who know the adage about Bold Pilots and Old Pilots, he really was the exception.
