Self Declaration

Post by Jodelpilot » Tue Aug 30, 2016 8:50 pm

Looking at the link in the Flyer newsletter to the LAA article and the very useful table it contains it suggests that with for a UK PPL with a self-declaration that "permission is required from appropriate authority if outside the UK".

Does this mean that I could approach the DGAC to fly to and in France (something Id like to do) if they give permission and more importantly has anyone had any discussions with the DGAC about the possibility of granting permission to fly in France on a UK PPLA(A) with a Self-Decleration?

I think it would be good idea to have a unified approach to such a request? Would the LAA office sponsor such a request / discussion?

Hi Jodelpilot. There is already an agreement that France will accept NPPL SSEA provided it has an ICAO compliant medical. The Medical Declaration was not ICAO compliant, nor is the new self-declaration, so I see little chance that the French will allow a UK PPL with self declaration as a suitable combination for French airspace. That said it would at least be worth asking the question at an official level.
Hopefully EASA may do something similar to self declaration in due course, and that might open new possibilities for UK PPL and NPPL SSEA on self declaration.
