Please can someone give me the current requirements for taking a permit factory built orphan aircraft to France. Is there a blanket agreement as with homebuilts, or do you have to apply to the DGAC for permission on an individual basis?

Re: France
No different requirements. The DGAC agreed to allow orphaned aircraft without having to apply. Ex Military are different however.
Basically......................File a flight plan and go.

Print this out and keep it in your flight bag.

Also, Abbeville and Amiens no longer available for customs in or out (see NOTAMs).
That now only leaves Le Touquet and Calais for the short channel crossing.
Albert Bray is a possibility but 12 hrs PNR required.
Brush up on your crosswind landing skills if selecting Le Touquet....

If you are new to crossing the Channel, I would suggest Calais as a first timer. It is rarely busy and Alex in the Tower is very helpful and laid back. The Runway is large enough and quiet enough for anyone (including me).
As a stop over for lunch? Not for me. the Restaurant although good is a bit of a hit and miss whether it's open or not. Ring before would be my advice. There are several airfields to the south that are welcoming too and will call a taxi for you. St Omer, Arras etc.
Le Touquet is excellent for food and a walk into town is easy, but weekends can be very busy and as Tony said "watch out for the crosswind"
