To answer the OP's question will -
old 25 kHz remains fixed in the aircraft ... need to be disconnected
Here is a quote from the CAA website:
Existing 25kHz radios can be left installed provided that they are only used for exempted frequencies, such as the emergency frequency.
https://www.caa.co.uk/General-aviation/ ... Hz-radios/

Hope that helps.

For what it's worth my view is wait and see as it is clear that the French are heading toward non-compliance with even their air force saying NON ! If this all goes the way of mode S then it will quietly slip away to obscurity....the other point being that as we are leaving the EU why can't the CAA just say that the UK is staying as we are .
There is the question also as to why existing radio's can't be converted.....I suppose there is a lot more loot to be made from manufacturing and selling new radio's on the usual premise that if we fly then we can afford to keep paying in keeping with the fact that anything aviation related costs twice as much.
I am not about to dump my radio anytime soon as things are in a state of change and variation and we have months to go yet so who can predict what the final outcome will be ?

Unfortunately Mike , we are still part of EASA and Eurocontrol [ don't you hate that expression] and they probably ain't going to go away .
But , I have the solution. :D If you change your name to Michel and I become Christophe,,,,,,,,,,,,

Then we can pretend we're French and just ignore the whole thing.............. 8)

Mike,

Two issues:
1. Most likely some airfields you will want to fly to may be allocated a new 8.33 KHz frequency. I think that is going to happen where I am based (Popham). You won't be able to communicate properly.
Or you can go non-radio.....

2. You can't modify "old" radios" to work with the tighter channel bandwidth. A bit like trying to make an old black and white TV display colour!

The 8.33 radio farce continues, its now been stated it will be illegal to have a 25kz radio on board that works, we are moving into dangerous territory when the shit hits the fan Oh your insurance and LAA Permit is invalid, you had on board a nice expensive Bendix King which was working, this is forbidden by the state.
Oh excuse me have I fallen asleep and woken up in a dictator state?
This farce does not inspire me to continue what is already an expensive hobby.
Oh yes you can replace your nice expensive 2,500 pound Bendix King with one of those jolly little hand held radios they work really well you know!!
Give me a break great swap that's just knocked 2,500 pounds off the value of my aircraft, Thanks CAA you have hit the bulls eye again, is it done in the name of safety NO.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention, if you throw your nice Bendix King valued at 2,500 pounds in the bin then spend another 2,500 pounds on a new radio the nice man will give you 20% back, Oh that's if you get spending quick before the nice man has given away his allowance and his little piggy bank maybe empty.
Off you go now there are lots of nice shiny adverts on the back of those nice flying magazines, stating 8.33 deadline looming come and spend with us we are ever so helpful at taking your cash.

The 8.33 situation is a farce which ever way you look at it and the only people making any gain are the radio manufacturers by having the CAA forcing aircraft owners to buy new totally unnecessary new radios.
Yet again GA is suffering another nail in its already large coffin.
GA is decreasing its not an appealing hobby to enter into what example this sets for our young folk, its shabby all round and a very sad day if this legislation continues on its flight to doom.

I have just had the radio changed out on my Gyro only to find out that the replacement radio has failed. Spoke to LX Avionics and they said that this is the 20th reported problem, therefore I am currently grounded :(

I am on the verge of buying a Trig TY91 8.33 radio and a TT21 Mode S transponder at the Rally next week so I hope the "dodgy" radio mentioned above wasn't a Trig!

The little ones are working fine, at least for me and those I know who have them.
