LAA Patron Prince Michael resignation

I am at a disadvantage in being up to speed with the LAA magazine as I have been in South East Asia since October and do not return to the UK until May. Hence the latest LAA magazine is sitting in a frozen hall in Norfolk.

However I understand Prince Michael has resigned after 26 years as patron.

Did he give any reason?

What happens now?

I hope the committee will approach either Prince William or Harry to contine the royal link with aviation.

Hopefully , you'll be wrong there Bill . All 'that' is now a chapter in the past .

But I do think that Donald raises a point ,,and he's not the first one to say that either . I would guess that we do need representatives of good calibre , especially on the political lobbying front . Being able to wheel out the odd titled person to represent us in the various campaigns is always a plus , especially if that person possesses a good understanding and a bit of influence in the aviation world .

The Royals do tend to get a bit of a weaning from the world of aviation don't they , which I guess is seen as an advantage from some quarters . But I'm not sure if that necessarily makes them the right choice though.

But putting my facetiousness aside for a second , I guess that it isn't a role which has a desperate need to be rapidly filled . Also , and with respect to the fact that such a role could probably be a long-term position for a suitable candidate , then it probably makes sense to avoid rushing in .

Mike's original suggestion of either Harry or Wills I think is excellent and would certainly be a proper coup for the LAA . Not only are they knowledgeable and enthusiastic , but also massively popular with the people , Most of whom have pretty fresh memories of both these guys serving the country in green flying suits . And for either of these boys , attending the Sywell rally would be something that they would both really , genuinely enjoy immensely .

I'm sure that they probably swing by this forum quite regularly ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and seeing this thread may just goad them into dropping their CV's in , next time they're around Turweston .

If It's not gonna be me, either of them would make decent substitutes Chris.
