"On the matter of Lee on Solent, Hampshire Police Authority decided at their meeting yesterday to set user charges at £550 per annum inc VAT with microlights paying half that. That's for a landing card. I'd argued that a fair comparator was the £235 inc VAT charged at Hestridge (also unlicensed with a single hard runway). Unfortunately HPA didn't share my opinion on that. However it's a darned sight better than the £2000 plus figure that they came up with originally

We haven't got visitors sorted out yet. More details at www.eghf.co.uk
The runway is leased to Hampshire Police but they don't have any parking. Therefore a visitor needs to make arrangements for parking with someone who leases land or hangarage from South East England Develpment Agency (SEEDA) who own the dispersals and taxiways.

Once you've got that sorted it's contact the Airfield Manager for PPR and fax over your insurance details.

No catering, no toilets, no briefing facilities. Airfield Manual is downloadable from the site linked above and the last page has a "Pooleys" type plate for the field with details and fuel availability.

Lee on Solent

Early on on this site I recorded my interest in flying in as a visitor, and have kept watch on the eghf web site. I would probably visit half a dozen or so times a year.

A few weeks ago I read the Airfield Manual and printed off the 'plate', and spoke with the press relations guy given on that site.
I was told that the Police were wary about conflict with gliding, but also that it normally takes place only on Wed pm and weekends.
Personally, I would avoid any time when gliding is active, confining it to Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri.

Inspection by Google Earth shows lots of parking space in the police area, but if they won't let it be used, so be it. But if one of the aviation businesses based there would handle visitors that would be fine by me.
For comparison, Bembridge just across the water, but in addition is a licenced airfield, charges landing fee £7.50 up to 750kg gross, and £10.00 above.

Just reconfirming my continued interest and waiting patiently!
If you want me to come in as a test case, I'll jump at it.

As with all things we've had a priority list.

Number one was to stop the airfield being closed and all the based aircraft chucked off. That took a huge amount of work and has now been achieved.

We're now moving forward on the rest. The basic problem is that none of the landowners or lessees are keen on doing anything unless it's directly in their own interests.

MCA own the inner part but are only interested in operating the SAR flight off it.

The Police lease the land off MCA and are only interested in Police activity (operating their Islander and various other Police activities that are accommodated on the land). They've been persuaded to accept the bribe of 550 quid per aircraft per year to allow other people to use the runway but they have absolutely zero interest in facilitating its use for anyone else.

The aircraft owners who rent hanagarage from SEEDA only do so in order to base their own aircraft there. While they'd like to see visitors, a cafe etc, until someone puts hand in pocket and sets up an FBO type operation it won't happen.

Not an easy nut to crack but we're working on it.
