Crankcases

Post by Blade » Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:38 pm

I have problem with a rotax 914, the crankcases has fretted with only 680 hours on it, the engine is pre 2005 , Have been told off rotax that they are not liable as it lacks evidence of a service history, even though a batch of these engines have suffered crankcase fretting, The cost of new crankcases is about £6k plus labour. Was wondering if the old 912 uls rotax crankcases are the same. Or any ideas on best way forward. Funds are limited though .

As far as I know the ULS crankcases are the same. I wouldn't elect for an earlier crankcase as the later cases were reinforced to mitigate the fretting issue (there's a Rotax SB that tells you what casting numbers to look out for).
