LAA WESSEX STRUT FLY-IN CANCELLED. LAA 75 TOUR WILL GO AHEAD.

Due to concerns expressed by the airfield operator regarding ongoing Covid risks, the LAA Wessex Strut Fly-In scheduled for Sunday 4th July has been cancelled.

“While highly disappointing given the efforts put in by Strut members and the airfield owner, we fully understand the concern that a large gathering of this nature may create a risk, and we fully endorse the decision” say LAA CEO Steve Slater.

Henstridge airfield remains open to visiting pilots on a strict PPR basis. Henstridge will NOT accept visiting traffic from the following Locations: Greater Manchester, Blackburn and Darwen, Lancashire, Kirklees, Bedford, Leicester, Hounslow and North Tyneside. For further information and to PPR please email [email protected]

The fly-in was also due to be the starting point for the LAA 75th Anniversary tour event. Following a full review and risk assessment, we are pleased to announce that this event WILL GO AHEAD.

THE TOUR
The tour will now start on Monday 5th July with Bodmin as the first congregating point and overnight stop. Aircraft en route are invited to call in at Dunkeswell for a lunch/coffee break/fuel stop. Devon strut members will on site to welcome all. Show your LAA membership card here for a half price landing.

Tuesday 6th July ; The Tour heads for Barton for our next night stop- via Kemble for coffee and Shobdon for lunch. This also gives people the chance to join up as the tourists fly north. Barton (£5.00 landing fee) overnight stop (camping allowed). Please be at Barton by 6.00pm local time. Evening meal and breakfast served. North west strut members have offered to give lifts to nearby hotels.

Wednesday 7th July ; Tourists head north east to Eshott for lunch (BBQ) and free landing. Then down the coast to Breighton for a night stop (free landing). Evening meal/breakfast served and camping allowed. On route info ; Newcastle ATC are aware and ready to help (as previous tour). Call when you see the city bridges on The River Tyne.

Thursday 8th July ; Onto Leicester (free landing) for lunch before heading home. LAA member and airport director Michael Wright is very much looking forward to seeing us. East Midlands strut also on site if any help is required.

In order to assist airfield owners in meeting COVID protocols we are requesting that anyone taking part in all, or individual legs within the LAA 75 Tour, books PPR for each of the airfields they intend to visit. Not only will it help with Track and Trace, but also with food numbers for the airfield cafes, all of whom want to know in advance if possible. Please use e-mail as not all airfields the ops/ATC manned during the week.
