Renewing an SSEA/SLMG rating on my ancient NPPL

Post by andysawicki » Sat Oct 21, 2023 9:29 am

Hi,

TLDR: Can I use my UK-FCL SEP/TMG ratings as full credit towards NPPL SSEA/SLMG ratings on my 2005 NPPL which currently has no valid ratings?

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere but perhaps someone here can help.

I fly on a UK FCL PPL(A) with valid SEP and TMG ratings.

I have a NPPL initially issued in 2005. I had SSEA, SLMG and M ratings but stopped maintaining them many years ago as I didn't need them. I would like to bring this license back to life with SSEA and SLMG ratings, as it would allow towing privileges without having to go down the more formal towing rating route on the PPL(A).

I can see that at some point in in the recent past, the SEP rating with valid medical could be used as credit in full towards an SSEA rating, but it's not obvious that this route is still available. There doesn't seem to be an application form that I can use which allows me to do this. (I assume that TMG would credit towards SLMG too).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
