Re-weighing

Post by gregorp » Wed Aug 07, 2024 11:11 pm

I have seen a couple of references to reweighing of LAA aircraft at Permit renewal time. Is this a new requirement?

Typical, long reply twice and didn’t work. I should have copied it before pressing submit.

I think the requirement has always been there, even on the old blue permit application forms.
From memory, it recommended a re-weigh every 10 years..

It does, but it’s a recommendation. Until it’s mandatory, and they’ll need a good reason for that, you don’t have to do it.

Jeeze , what’s wrong with this website.

I’m looking into buy three pads so I can weigh planes up to around 750 kg. Would folks be willing to meet up at different locations for a weighing and then chip in on the price of the equipment? Thinking £30 a time maybe…

Or, why don’t the LAA buy a set and keep them in the workshop at Turweston and then we can fly in and use them ourselves? Again a nominal fee for their use, say £30…

See if this posts, my 5th attempt.

I have lots of issues with this website - I keep getting logged out after about 20 seconds....

I think your idea is great. I know of two aircraft that need weighting at Popham...

Good idea to buy a set of scales, you will also need ramps or jacks, spirit levels or lasers, calibration certificates each year, plumb bob, straight edges and someone to prepare a spreadsheet to make the calcs easy and the examples for the LAA paperwork.

I did this a few years ago but can only travel in and around Kent, Sussex and South Essex as otherwise the travel time and distance makes the cost rise to that which planeways would charge, and makes it uneconomic.

Hi John,

Are you based at or near an airfield where an owner could fly in to get a weighing?
Sounds like you are kitted out just like I imagined.
I’ve weighed my own aircraft, used a set of scales borrowed and validated them with a spot test with borrowed weights. It’s not rocket science but you do need an appreciation of the principles.
If someone came to you, assuming they felt the need to weigh their plane, what do you charge?

Yes, I get flipped out this forum if I write all but a few words.
Need fixing.
Might explain why no one uses this forum.
I’m giving up on it.

Clive,

Did you proceed and purchase a set of scales? Someone in Hampshire is looking to re-weigh his aircraft.
