ANR headsets

Post by glen.everett » Tue Nov 11, 2008 5:47 pm

Hi
Does anybody have experience of using a Microavionics UL-200 ANR in an open cockpit?

Also any opinions on conventional ANR headsets for a Sportcruiser, any glowing purchases you are very pleased with, or any you found best avoided?

Christmas is coming...........

Thanks
Glen

Here we go then,

Another can open, worms everywhere section.

I have used and tested most of the ANR headsets on the market, I have owned a Telex ANR for about 10 years. Finally It came up for replacement and after due consideration and thought, I bought the Bose.

Yes, I know its expensive. But its "bloody good"!!

I flew down to southern Spain during the summer with legs of 4hrs & 2Hrs on day one and 2Hrs & 3.5 Hrs on day two. I had no problems with fatigue or hearing problems. The radio reception through them was perfect and its also very light which can be important if you fly at length.

Get hold of some loaners or borrow from another pilot and air test them prior to buying that way you will know in your own mind which one is for you.

John.

Glen

I have two pair of Lightspeed in my Sportcruiser and they are the best headsets I have owned - However, as I haven't owned/tried either Bose nor DC X's I don't know what I'm (possibly) missing.

Why don't you ask on the Sportcruiser forum.

I have Bose but I would not recommend them for an open cockpit. Any airflow over the earcups can severely degrade performance. In my case I have to be careful with the air vents directing fresh air at my head.

I've also had problems with the cable. They're currently unserviceable and awaiting a trip to Headset Services for the second time. No visible damage. One minute they were working fine, a couple of minutes later I'd taken them off and put them back on again and no audio in either direction. Good job they have a 5 year warranty.

When they are working the clarity and comfort are outstanding.

Had my Bose headsets for two years and have never had any problems at all.
Most comfortable and clear headsets I have owned. Highly recommend them.
