Elstree aerodrome and Irv Lee
Hi All,
Our strut meeting in January 29 at Elstree aerodrome will be a talk by Irv Lee.
He intends to do a lesson on navigation for us especially following his fly on track website, which if you have not seen it is great viewing.
http://xsrvr.com/flyontrack/content/
All LAA members will be welcome but especially those of our herts and NW London strut. The bar will be open, you should be able to get some snacks as well as being able to catch up on past friends.
I will keep an update here as we progress towards the meeting, but as usual anybody can email me or Robert if you want to know more.
Cheers all,
Kelvin Denize
Chair, Herts and NW London Strut based at Elstree.

Re: Elstree aerodrome and Irv Lee
better to use http://www.flyontrack.co.uk and allow it to redirect you, as the code is physically moving servers and the 'xsrvr' one quoted above is only a temporary base which won't work shortly, whereas the main home flyontrack address should point to where-ever the site is. (Although, knowing how things normally pan out with anything like this, I bet I regret saying that within the next fortnight)Mishek wrote:http://xsrvr.com/flyontrack/content/

Err, sorry about that Irv.
Still, have a look at the link if nothing else but for the listening watch codes that we can all use when transitting out and around. Flying from Elstree I use them all the time, almost enough that Luton app may consider giving me my own personal sqk code.
Remember, the event on the 29th of January is for everybody and anybody with a desire to aviate without getting lost should consider attending.
See you all there on the night,
Kelvin

Lets pull this up to the top of the forum to ensure everybody who wants to attend knows about it.
The evening is at the Elstree aeroclub, Elstree Aerodrome

29th Jan 7.30pm - Irv Lee on Navigation Skills - plus a short AGM.
Many of you will already know Irv Lee, who is an instructor and examiner, and writes and teaches extensively on most aspects of flying. In 2007 he won the AOPA award for special contribution to aviation safety. He runs masterclasses, publishes training DVD's, and is involved with GASCO, GAPAN, Fly On Track, and the CAA's AIWG (Infringements Working Group) He is an inspiring speaker, with a very practical approach. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions. We have invited some non-strut flyers, and expect a good turnout, so get there early for a good seat!
Look forward to meeting up with fellow flyers and learning what plans are in place for the summer of aviation.
As always, Eternal Cavok!!, Kelvin Denize.

Thanks to the forty or so that attended this evening, I believe everybody had a fantastic evening and I hope we all go away with a better understanding of navigation and some of the facilities avaliable to us.
Those of you that wish to attend further events there is one comming up at Radlett (very north London).
Details below,
"PPL? It's a licence to learn...." - So what do you suppose that means...?
"You learn from your mistakes...." - Well, that's NOT the way it has to be...
PPL Masterclass RADLETT, Sun. 26th April '09
(in M25 / M1 / A1(M) 'Triangle' close to ELSTREE)
Are you a “New PPL”, a well advanced student perhaps, or have you been flying for years?
The answer doesn't matter - you'd find it hard not to enjoy (and benefit from) a PPL Masterclass.
No prior knowledge, no tests, no nasty surprises, and numbers limited ensuring you benefit fully.
With the new flying season starting soon, enjoy a ‘weather proof’ whole day aviation
experience for the UK based pilot. Your host and presenter, Irv Lee, specialises in mentoring
pilots who want to improve whilst enjoying their flying at the same time. The material covered
is not the boring stuff needed for ground examinations - but it is what you need for practical
flying in the UK. You’ll meet like-minded pilots too, so the possibility is there for teaming up
to share costs and experiences in future. Rated great value by attendees, you can relax whilst
learning how to recognise “what might catch you out” and “tips for easier and safer flying”.
Air Law - how not to talk yourself into trouble. (Even “Special VFR” made simple!)
EASA Licensing - what it may mean for you.
Pre-flight Planning - understanding potential problems & a NOTAM Check projected demo
Meteorology - actually understanding what is going on in and over the UK, to spot problems
Technical - the little bits of knowledge to help to keep you safe
First Trip Abroad - Flight Plans and French flying tips
Understanding Syndicates - learning from others rather than by mistakes,
Relaxed Navigation - Tips to help your VFR away-days, including safe GPS integration
Attendance for the day costs less than an hour’s dual flying, lunch included. Check out the
website www.higherplane.co.uk for the Masterclass seminars. This Masterclass has an early
booking price of £105, including handouts, refreshments and lunch - rated great value by
attendees, giving hours of advice for far less than an hour’s dual flying at local aeroclubs!
Contact Irv direct for further details,
