12th Annual Abingdon Air & Country Charity Show.8th May

Post by colin smith » Thu Jul 01, 2010 4:45 pm

Despite the set-backs and disappointment from this year’s Abingdon Air & Country Charity Show on May 2nd,the all-volunteer organising committee have pulled together and will be going ahead with the 12th event in the show’s history in 2011.

Instead of the previous early May Bank Holiday weekend, next year the show will be held on Sunday 8th May(the weekend after the Bank Holiday). This has been decided purely as a cost-cutting exercise…many military airfields are not open on a Bank Holiday Monday, and there-fore the show needs to hire(..& pay) for the airfield, security personnel and associated infrastructure and accommodation for visiting aircrew up to and including the Tuesday lunchtime after the show weekend.By having the show on a “normal” weekend all aircraft will be able to head home on the Monday there-by saving a day’s worth of costs which could be allocated elsewhere within the show set-up.

As in previous years the 2011 Abingdon Air & Country Charity Show will provide a good all-round value for money day out for everybody. As well as the flying and static aircraft displays it is hoped to include Craft,Farmer’s Mkt and general Trade Stalls,classic/historic cars, commercial, steam and agricultural vehicles, live music, arena displays and much more….and once again will be held in support of the local Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust
To help with the running costs involved in organising the show, the committee will soon be putting together a selection of attractive sponsorship packages. These will be available to see on the web-site(www.abingdonfayre.com) within the next few weeks.
In the meantime any queries can be sent to Neil([email protected]) or Andy([email protected]) Porter on 01235 529142 or to Colin Smith(07749219001 or [email protected]) or look out for our Publicity/Tombola Stall at a wide range of events between now and next May

Many thanks for all your support in years past, and especiallly the difficult times around the 2010 show

Colin

Great news. I've had a May Bank Holiday Sunday commitment for decades, and will be very happy to join in for 2011.
