Bungee for Undercarriage OR Steel Sprung Shocks

Post by Sean McDonald » Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:42 pm

Can anyone please point me to someone who supplies and preferably makes bespoke bungee cord lengths for undercarriage use? 450kg MAUW taildragger. Currently one single length wrapped several times round the spigots on the undercarriage strut. Would prefer individual rings with 4 or 6 on each leg if soemone makes them.
I have had some from one UK aviation supplier who shall remain nameless which were very expensive and have lasted barely 18 months of light use so looking for alternative ideas.

OR

Anyone who could make something in this picture to replace the bungee struts. This is an American aircraft. Would like a UK maker if there is one or a pointer to someone who might know a source.

Thank you

Take a look at Wag Aero:

They also supply shock cords of various sizes.

Thanks Tony. I'd seen these and they look good. Not sure if they will make to measure though and of course they are in the USA. I had a very useful conversation with a LAA member last night who has had something made to replace bungee struts. Not quite the same as these but essentially doing the same job. Weight is an issue so I'll be wary.

I'm not sure how I would work out what shock cord rings I would need if I was to replace my one long bungee that is multi wrapped on the strut. Any ideas on how to calculate that?

Appreciate you taking time to reply.

Sean,

Unfortunately, I have no idea how one would calculate what was needed.
Regarding the WagAero struts, perhaps get the bit that is too short locally made?
What aircraft are these for?
