Anybody go?
I was considering flying in but the daft slot booking system defeated me. I thought I had a slot confirmed, but I received an email telling me I had to confirm it again by 10:00 the following day otherwise they would cancel it. The email was from the previous day and I'd missed the 18 hour window for confirmation. Oh yes - they asked me to confirm including the slot number. Bit of a problem as that was in my flight bag at home, the email having no mention of it.
I certainly wasn't going to drive for 3 hours each way, especially when I could fly in about an hour, so that was that!
Anybody else not go for this reason?
I have asked them if they are going to ditch the slot system next year in favour of a published procedure arrangement like at the old PFA rallies but I don't really expect a response.
I know of several other people who didn't go for the same reasons, and one who did manage to fly in and commented that the apron was surprisingly empty, despite not getting a slot until late morning.

If the good Lord had intended man to fly, He would have given him more money.

Hi Rob,
We have had discussions with Paddy Casey, the Aero Expo organiser, to try and improve the situation.
Paddy would like to have more flexibility but, unfortunately, maintaining full ATC throughout Aero Expo is a condition applied by the airfield management - and not negotiable.
I'd guess that about half of all arrivals were LAA types. Sunday was quieter, as expected, due to competing sporting events and air shows.
We had a great time in the LAA Marquee and I'd like to thank the Royal Berkshire Strut and YES for all their hard work in pulling it all together and giving the visitors an insight into the activities of the LAA. Thanks to all the owners that brought their aircraft along for static display, too. We had a broad range which generated lots of interest.
The highlight of Sunday afternoon was not football - but a mini tornado that singled out the LAA marquee, sending magazines, stands and banners flying and one static aircraft outside tipped onto its nose. It only lasted about 10 seconds before all was once again calm. Shortly afterwards you could still see various papers and magazines spiralling up into the sky. Weird.

I heard that due to an unfortunate error, pilots with confirmed slots were sent the message that should have gone to the unconfirmed ones. Shame if so.
Good to see the RAeS-Boeing Schools Build-a-Plane Challenge Rans S6 that Yateley School is building in conjunction with some other local schools. In its skeleton state with just the empennage covered, it proved a great source of interest, and there were a few enquiries about possibilities for further projects. The Devon Youth Build-a-Plane X-Air Hawk G-SPDY was able to fly in for the weekend too. With the Shuttleworth commitment the previous weekend, where G-TSOB also joined them, the Build-a-Plane Projects have been attracting much attention recently.
Thanks go to the LAA Expo Site Team, David Hanchett and others, who put in so much effort to ensure an excellent LAA presence.

The July issue of AV8 has an Aero Expo Show report http://www.av8magazine.com/.
In part... "Perhaps the most impressive stand, or assembly of stands, was actually the LAA Marquee. This seemed to be a hive of activity all weekend...."
The YES Build A Plane project and Sherwood Ranger get a mention along with Cosmik and their EuroStars.
A pleasing result and thanks again to all involved.
