Thanks Dunkeswell and Haverfordwest

As a member of the LAA based in Ireland, I was delighted when travel restrictions for Permit aircraft between Ireland and the UK were relaxed this year. To celebrate, I planned a trip to France, via the UK. The long sunny days of late June would be ideal for the outbound leg – a relaxed trip in slow aircraft.

I still take a deep breath at the mention of “paperwork”. Flight plans are at the limit of my comfort zone – can you imagine how my blood pressure rises when associated with “terrorism”. Yes, I have started on the GAR forms. Now what county is Haverfordwest in – jeez, geography without a gps !!

And I need to decide when and where I am departing from the UK before I even get there !. With west of Ireland weather, only an optimist will give a date, never mind a time. A day trip to Waterford looked increasingly inviting.

As a near last resort, I phone Haverfordwest. 5 minutes later, I’m ready for a round the world trip.

“Easy” says Peter, “email me the paperwork and we’ll send them on to A, B and C”. And no need to go to X, our lads all route via Dunkeswell - lovely place”.

He was right. Despite arriving 2 days later than originally planned (weather), the folks at Haverfordwest could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Dunkeswell maintained the superlative standards – thumbs up to the guys for the welcome, standard of service and sourcing perfect accommodation for a most enjoyable overnight.

Fellow LAAers may already know of these two exceptional spots – and I’m sure there are others. But just in case you are looking for a place to visit or a night’s stopover, you will not be disappointed if you choose Dunkeswell or Haverfordwest. It goes without saying that both stops were included on the return trek from France to Ireland.

Thanks again guys and LAA members we met at both stopovers.
