I don't know how many people watched this on Sunday but the presenter who is supposed to be a professor is way off beam at times.
He referred to slats as primarily drag producing devices when they are primarily lift increasing devices. Then he said a washer had been left out which is why the bolt came free. Well maybe but at the very least it would be a split washer if not a tab washer, not the 2p B+Q flat one he held up to the camera. I suspect it would have been a stiffnut of some kind at least if not wire locked. OH come on guys, get it right.

Re: Terror in the skies
Saw a bit of this in C4 on Demand after reading this post . I could only manage about 4 minutes of it .
I certainly couldn't hold on long enough to see him talking about defective washers or slat/flap systems.
You have to remember that our 'Professor' friend is really only trying to placate the programme makers and they are only interested in viewing figures . Though having said that , he was rather unconvincing .
Here's another noteworthy point , the airline in which I work utilises Aeronautical Eng. Graduates , not for front-line duties I should add . Because most of them have never opened an engine cowling before .
The real clue though is in the title , and with a title like "Terror in the Skies" it was never going to be about proper aviation was it !
Should have posted it on that other forum Rob , and let the real 'experts' pick the bones out of it .
