Goodwood LAA Fly-in

Post by Brian Hope » Sun Oct 06, 2013 7:57 am

It looks like the Goodwood LAA Fly-in was a winner yesterday. As a taster to see if there would be demand for a bigger and better event next season it did a couple of things. First it proved that members will support LAA friendly airfields who offer an interesting place to go and a free landing, and secondly it highlighted the problems of heavy GA traffic arriving at an airfield not used to such volumes. I and a friend arrived around lunchtime and were numbers 9 and 10 asked to hold outside the ATZ because of the density of traffic. We hung around for ten minutes and then diverted to Sandown, as did a third aircraft that was with us and heard the delay so didn’t even bother to call for landing. This certainly isn’t intended as a criticism of Goodwood, they were simply overwhelmed and their normal system couldn't cope but hopefully it is a lesson learned and won't put the airfield off organising an LAA event next year.

Hi Brian,
I don't know if you have seen the post on the Flyer forum? I knew this event was only a taster, but had it not been for Flyer Forums, I would not have known about it (not that I was able to attend).
It's a shame they didn't publicise it a bit more, nothing on the Goodwood/LAA websites (that I could find)
I just checked our own homepage an there is indeed nothing in the news, and the Events Calender has a misleading link to Royal Aero Club events. Since the magazine has a 'Where To Go' section, why is this not repeated on the website?

Cheers
Ian

An excellent day out. I arrived in G-RUVY about the same time and had to hold for 15 minutes...not a big deal, tootled around the coast for a bit , knew I was about 10 in the queue, heard some giving up and diverting elsewhere but was called to join overhead, slotted in behind someone and no problem. Top marks to the Controller, he did well considering. Just need a formal holding pattern as it was a bit dodgy orbiting with others in differnt heights and directions but overall Jill and I enjoyed it. Thanks to all at Goodwood.

Ian , you must pay more attention to these flying matters old boy.

It was in the 'Where to Go' section of last months LA mag , and I would have been there myself in G-EVPI had I been able to take time away from those bloody Boeings and Airbuses .

And the post on that other forum seemed to allude to the fact it was so well subscribed to wasn't it ?

Perhaps they'll hold it another airfield with a little more spare capacity next year,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

How about Southend

Chris, old boy, thank you for your advice :D Not only had I had forgotten it was in last months magazine, I stupidly I checked in the current one Image

In mitigation I did say the WtG should be on the website as well. I wasn't thinking about this event specificity. The only events calender on this website is a link to another organisation!!

Mr/Ms Moderator,

I can't find any link on the LAA site to send you a P.M. to ask a pertinent question.
Perhaps you'd drop me a line with an e-mail address I can communicate with, and/or tell me what's not going on here.

John,

Link never reached as clicking your name and trying to access profile required a password which must be different to my usual one which does work !
So no luck.
