start again?

Post by G.Dawes » Sun Nov 17, 2013 10:21 pm

I posted this in the questions about training but it doesn't appear to have been seen so I ask again here.

After losing my class one medical and professional licence (CAA) I want to carry on flying in my annex 2 plane, (Jodel)
I hold an old UK lifetime PPL from a long time ago . 1971 issue
I have been advised I need to do the complete NPPL course from scratch if my currency is out over ten years to revalidate my PPL. OR can I do a flight test with an examiner?
Can I use a class two NPPL medical declaration to use with that licence with a SSEA rating to start again?
I am not prepared to go through the medical hoops of very expensive tests to get another EASA or unrestricted CAA medical only to have it change and lose it all again. I am still fit but historical records are what they use.
What are the options please. Can anybody give a definitive answer from the coaches as to the requirements and hoops

Hi Graham
I had the same issues but carried but carried on flying with an NPPL declaration. This year after a word with an AME I converted to an LAPL. So now I have 3 for life licences. The LAPL medical lasts for two years with no ECG.

It depends how long your SEP rating is expired.

If its expired by less than 5 years, it's just a General Skill Test.

If its expired by more than 5 years, you will be need training as required plus pass a General Skill Test.

See the Cross-Crediting document on the NPPL website 2.2:

http://www.nationalprivatepilotslicence ... V%2011.pdf
Credit shall be given for holders of expired CAA-issued JAR-FCL Pilot Licence (Aeroplanes) and UK PPL (A) licences or ratings as follows:

(a) Where a SEP class rating included in such licences has expired by not more than 5 years, the licence holder shall hold a valid NPPL Medical Declaration or Part-MED LAPL, Class 1 or 2 medical certificate and pass the NPPL GST in a SSEA.

(b) Where a SEP class rating included in such licences has expired by more than 5 years, the licence holder shall undergo a course of SSEA refresher flying training as specified by a FI(A) or CRI(SPA), hold a valid NPPL Medical Declaration or Part-MED LAPL, Class 1 or 2 medical certificate and pass the NPPL GST in a SSEA. The licence holder shall also pass an oral theoretical knowledge examination conducted by the authorised examiner as part of the GST.
Apologies for the tardy response - I was having trouble logging in.

All the best.
