Software packages for Instrument Flight Training

Post by mcostello » Tue Mar 09, 2021 3:44 pm

Hello Everybody

I wonder if someone might like to give me some advice? My licence has been suspended for medical reasons so during this enforced "downtime" I thought I might get some kind of simulation software that would teach me something about instrument flying. I have very little experience of this for real, I did my PPL hours under the hood and I've followed a few VOR radials but that's about it. I could go out and buy Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, which I will if I have to but if anybody has any ideas about what might be appropriate I'd love to hear them.

The commercially available flight sims are not bad for learning the basics, especially the radio nav side but I would say have instruction for the actual instrument flying, one thing you will not get on a computer sim are the false sensations that you can get in a real aircraft.
