AoA Display for an RV-4

Post by Paul 806 »

I am sketching out my instrument panel layout for my RV-4. I am very keen to incorporate a standalone angle of attack display (not integrated into such as a Garmin G3X), but am having trouble identifying a currently available and affordable system.

Is anyone aware of a system that they could recommend, please?

Thanks,

Alpha Systems do a couple, but are quite pricy. They are the complete standalone system though.

You may also want to look at DIY versions like this

Thanks Ian,

As I have researched potential solutions, I have been able to trace a certain amount of history (I think!). Advanced Flight Systems offered a display remarkably similar to the Alpha one, but as far as I can determine AFS was swallowed up by Dynon, who then discontinued the product!

The Alpha system has a nice display (but it is expensive as you say). A quick look just now seemed to indicate that it does not compensate for flap position, which some systems did.

I shall have a closer look at the DIY system that you have highlighted.

Thanks again,

Paul

Why not use the integrated AoA in say a Dynon Skyview ?

It is a simple ladder display, links through audio, simple system yet when properly calibrated, extremely reliable.

We have one on our RV7, calibrated 2 on RV12 and 1 on an RV8 - just absolutely easy peasy !
