November issue of Light Aviation Magazine - reprint coming!!

Post by Peter Harvey » Wed Oct 29, 2008 8:16 am

There's been an error at the printers during the print run of our wonderful magazine for November.

It would appear eight pages from last month's (October) magazine have randomly replaced the equivalent pages from November's. Sheila in the office noticed it when we received the advance 'office' copy and was straight onto the publisher. Unfortunately, the Post Office had already grabbed the complete run and it can't be stopped. It's rare for the Post Office to be too fast!

You will receive two magazines for November, same cover, but rather different inside.

The whole cost of re-print (done yesterday) and re-post will be borne by the printer. It's anticipated you'll start receiving the 2nd copy early next week. We're investigating exactly what happened to see what can be learnt.

It appears to be a good old fashioned cock-up. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

On a more positive note, the issue looks the best yet. I've thought that the last four months - congratulations to Brian and the team.

Blast! First time that mine has arrived so early in the month. I noticed the print error but have never seen the extra pages. Might I have missed the October issue?

Yes Bill, the Luciole article is intact, so you'll have a spare!

So glad it wasn't a problem at LAA end - shame all the same. Still, we can pull out the LAA Training page and pin it up in the clubhhouse!

Just got mine - brilliant as usual. The mag keeps going from strength to strength - if you are monitoring Brian - very well done.

“Instantly and economically relayed to at least 500/8,000 of us via this BB !”

An interesting point. If the WWW can be used to save us some cash I would be very keen on us taking it. Personally, I could cope with one mag and the missing pages posted on the LAA web site. The printers could then send us the cash and the association would gain. I would even be happy to receive the Mag by email every month and cut the cost of printing and posting if it saved the Association money. We would save a few trees at the same time! I think I read that the mag costs us about £20,000 a year so we are talking significant cash.

Have to disagree about an e-mag. Personally I like to take mine with me so I can snatch a read of my aeroplane porn (as my staff call it) during a lunch break or whenever. Being a luddite I need a physical sheet of paper!

However in the case of this months mag, where it's only a couple of pages that's affected, maybe an e-correction would be in order (as I could print it out!).

so what happened to quality control - nobody looked at the thing at any stage before it was posted!! I assume that LAA does not bear any of the cost of this cock up

Peter did tell us so in the first post of this thread:

Thought it was me last night when I couldn't find the start of an article and the pages didn't make a lot of sense. Not tired and emotion, just tired

But the magazine is first class and the Luciole article best this year
