NPPL & Medical Declaration Validity

Post by Goldblock » Mon Nov 10, 2008 2:07 pm

This has probably been answered many times but I converted from JAR-PPL to NPPL this January (2008). No significant medical reason for this, I was just getting p'ed off having to get a medical every year (I'm over 50) at about £100 a go when I do not intend to fly outside UK or do anything I can't do with a NPPL.

Now for the questions,
1. Am I right that AFTER Feb 2008 all NPPLs have to be revalidated every two years (basically like the JAR-PPL)
2. That the medical declaration is valid for 5 years (for those between 50 and 59 years of age) unless there is a significant change in medical circumstances. That is no further visit to the GP is required before 5 years have elapsed.

I know that this is all in the ANO but it is one heavy document to plough through when a quick request here may clarify the position from amongst you highly knowledgeable types.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Barry, you are correct, the NPPL now requires a Bi-annual check, the same as a JAR/PPLA. You can also do this through the LAA Pilot coaching Scheme, if you need any info try:

Hi Barry paste this link, it should explain all more simply, you must do a BFR by June 2009 to stay current on a NPPL.

This AIC sets out the changes to the NPPL renewal. Without the 1 hour dual instruction you can still re-validate, but it will be endorsed "single seat only" (I gather this also allows solo flying of other aircraft, but no passenger carrying).

Too late for you, but you can fly NPPL privileges on a full PPL with a NPPL medical declaration until your JAR PPL expires (a current JAR medical is required to renew the licence).

The NPPL web-site is a good source of information.
