THANK YOU.

Post by Will Greenwood » Sat Jan 17, 2009 6:04 pm

A short note to thank those who helped me mop up my Jurca Gnatsum at Turweston today Saturday after she sprung a leak on arrival. I have now learned not to fill the oil tank to the full mark as it tends to vent the oil from the relief valve and the push rod seals on the Potez engine, lesson learnt, and yes I felt a pil***k !!
Anyhow the flight home was uneventfull, and now I have a nice cleaning job for tomorrow, but thank you those who help get the cowls off and back on.

Will Greenwood.

Thank you Stuart, just sorry I did not get time to look around at the other aeroplanes, at least the problem was found to be a minor one, looking forward to getting her out and about this summer, got another good photo from here. http://pics-by-simon.fotoblog.co.uk/p55916450.html

Thanks again. Will Greenwood.

Having taken the trouble to follow the link,I clicked onto the picture.I then clicked to enlarge and the header came up saying that I have to use my password and passwords are restricted to LAA members.Well I've forgotten mine but I do remember that it didn't work last time so I didn't bother.
If I put myself in the position of some-one intersted in joining the LAA and trying to do some research via their website (as per ANY OTHER club/association that I might want to join)I would have taken the attitude"what a snobby load of eliteist ******** -They don't even want me to look at their bloody planes!".
LAA-0
Anti LAA mob-1
Good score!

edited Wills second post came up as I was typing this.this post refers to Stuarts post.

“what a snobby load of eliteist ********”

And they would be right, at least as far as the WWW and BB are concerned.

May I make a suggestion. If you are in a strut or type organisation that has an active NC rep, make your views known to them and give them the ammunition to make your case at the next NC (March). If you can get your strut to vote for the change all the better. If NC are persuaded and vote for a change then EC will i'm sure listen.

My strut coordinator thinks the WWW and especially BB’s are the work of the devil. On a really good day his email works though.

There are many people in all walks of life with that opinion :D

However, I can see no problem with some parts of our website being restricted to members. Having access to the large photos in the Photo Library is one of the benefits of being a member of the Association and nothing to do with being elitist.

Ron,

The Photo Gallery uses different log in details to the Forum. All was explained in the magazine (or follow the links through on the site itself).

Will,

Poti had an early AD about loss of engine oil that was fixed by a mod that now seems to be lost in the mists of time. I think it was something to do with the breather system. Was your problem associated?

John

Hi John, no mine was a simple push rod seal blown, which allowed the oil to seep, there are two sides to the big supercharged Potez 4D43, one high pressure to the main drives and gravity(inverted engine) to the rocker box, which is thank fully where my leak was.
Have spent the morning with a good mate cleaning the cowls and fuz before the bad weather descended in the south, sorry if you where there I did not see anyone, to busy getting her sorted, then flying back home for the photo shoot by 3pm. Hope to see you at the next fly in, this time with out the battle scars !

Will.

John. there are very many benefits to being a member, and thats why other people who are not members should join. Thats why the people at the AGM were agreed that we expand or shrivel. The best way to expand is to spread the gospel(advertise) and the best way of doing this is by word of mouth
The next best way as a proven fact to any buisness in order to reach the maximum amount of individuals nowadays is via the WWW.
Look at my posts on Prune or Flyer,(2 of the most active aviation sites with world coverage) I don't miss any opertunity to push the LAA.
However I can't do it here because no-one can get access to it that isn't already a member.
I am becoming tired with your's and Brians attitude that " if you want something out of the LAA you should pay for it or go without". In this instance it is us that want them (as members) and not vice-versa.

I looked at a model website last week and joined it straight away.
If I want to know anything about anything I go straight to the web for instant results ,as do most people nowadays.

I don't like knocking the LAA and I thought carefully before using the word elitist in my last post however I stand by my comment.

I realise that members of the public can access some parts of the website, but in my opinion, asking people to pay up and join before they have access to the BB/archive pics etc is like
turning some-one away that has bothered to come to a strut meeting in order to find out more about the LAA only to be told "you must become a member first".

You don't know,it could just be the chat on here (especially if from some-one local) or an Archive picture that tips the scales and makes some-one join!

J.C. has it absolutely right, if the PFA ( whhoops LAA ) wants new members, it needs to encourage potential members to be interested in becoming members. A simple way of doing that is to have them explore the website. Free access to websites is the norm on the internet. Those who doubt that go check.

I cannot understand the reasoning behind the fencing building mentality. It seems to have dimished the number of people who visit and use the site, 18 months ago it was an active site with things to say. Now it is a DEAD site.

I am a non flying member who finding increasing difficult to justify to myself paying my annual subs.
