Introduction
Hi everyone,
I've recently joined the LAA and I thought I should introduce myself before starting to post more generally. Some of you will know me from the Flyer Forums, where I post under the same nom de plume.
I own and fly a Piper Warrior out of Carlisle Airport (aka Eddie Stobart International). Much as I value the ability to fly in IMC and at night, the expense of flying an EASA aircraft all the time is getting prohibitive, so for some time I have been thinking of getting a permit aircraft for fun flying on a nice VMC day (Remember what those are? I am assuming that they'll return in due course!)
I've purchased a Sportcruiser kit and I am planning to build it over the coming months, hopefully getting its permit in time for a bit of autumnal flying later this year. Whilst I have been flying for some years, this is my first foray into permit aircraft and kit building, so do bear with me when I ask seemingly stupid questions!
I'm nominally retired, though I do provide air traffic engineering services to Carlisle airport through my company Westmorland Aviation Ltd. Other interests include Amateur Radio, computers, hillwalking and classical music. I'm also a Civilian Instructor for a local ATC squadron.
Looking forward to getting involved with LAA and the world of permit aviation.

Welcome
And it's a particular welcome to another SportCruiser builder.
For a mass of tips and information also make sure you join our forum:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sportcruiser/
where you will find many likeminded chaps either in the process of building or sourcing avionics or even flying.
Good luck with the build.

Welcome to the camp John, you may find either the Youth Education Scvheme, Y.E.S, or the Pilot Coaching Scheme,P.C.S., of interest with your instructor rating, basically teaching skills to new and old alike!! Enjoy your build, i'm test flying a CZAW today, although my choice is a Vans RV, and no doubt Rod will shout different, however commom ground is the love of aviation.
Make a date for the LAA Rally this year 4th-6th September 2009, I'm glad to see it back !!
Regards Will.

Thanks for the welcome. Really looking forward to getting started!
Rod - Good to catch up with you here. Next time you're coming to Carlisle do let me know and if I can, I'll meet you there.
Paul - I've been a member of the Sportcruiser Yahoo Group for about 18 months and it's a really useful resource, one which I will be making plenty of use of over the next few months I have no doubt!
Will - Looks like I need to find out about the YES/PCS. I don't have an instructor rating - I'm just an ordinary PPL(A) with IMC rating, Night Qual. and about 400 hours in the log. But if that experience can be turned to something useful within the LAA then I'm game. I'll have to try to get to the rally, though I doubt the SC will be flying by then and you might all look down your noses at me pitching up in my EASA PA28

John, it's a rather wonderful bunch of misfits that you've cared to join. People who love to stroke the sky and want to go on doing so, and I hope none of them would ever look down their noses at any EASA aeroplane, nor would you if the boot was on the other foot
When we meet (I'm the fat bald ugly bastard, once seen, never forgotten), mine's a pint. Hope to see you soon and hope you can bring others with you
Richard
