If your VR has one of those little tie clip mics why not just pop it inside one of your headset earcups ?

The simplest trial would be to make up a headphone style jack plug (1/4" dia) and connect it to your passenger's headset jack. I am making lots of assumptions here, but you get the idea. May be you use different connectors etc. but that would be the simplist way of getting audio out of your radio (for trial purposes) without too much messing about.
