One of the best, light hearted exchanges we have seen on the BB for a long time. Well done chaps.

Well, at least we achieved something!dmarti32 wrote:One of the best, light hearted exchanges we have seen on the BB for a long time. Well done chaps.

I am one of the people behind the 'new magazine,' and yes, I am an LAA member and fly an LAA type.
Obviously there will always be limitations with e-magazines, but there are a lot of advantages too. We can include video on the pages (something we will be doing a lot more of) and any web/e-mail links on the pages are live, so if you see something of interest you can click the link and be on another site in seconds. Very useful if you are browsing the events page. Another advantage is that it won't cost you £4 to look at it, and it's kind to trees too (as already pointed out!)
We haven't set out to compete with the LAA mag in any way; hopefully AV8 will compliment it. In fact we have made contact with Brian and we have offered to give the LAA some free space in AV8 to help raise the awareness of the association; something as a member I am particularly keen to do.
As for content, we are going to try and be a little different from the rest. We want to get away from the big flight test type features and concentrate on things that will appeal to 'yer average pilot.' We are also going to try and get to as many events and fly-ins around the country as we possibly can, so if you see someone in an AV8 shirt, please say 'hello.' Whatever, we are open to new ideas and suggestions.
We have been staggered by the response to AV8 so far. Considering that it is aimed at UK pilots, we have had people register from Brazil, New Zealand, S.Africa, Australia and nearly every European country. I have no idea how the word has travelled so quickly, but as long as people keep reading it, we will keep supplying it for nothing, and whatever you think of it, that's pretty good value for money!
