Has anybody tried to set up an account with the new assisted flight plan exchange where they do not have a email client installed on their computer and instead log in to the server to read their eamils.
The web site is here but setting this thing up if you do not have a email cliant on your PC is impossible. I tried to go around the problem by using my work PC which has the cliant installed but it viewed the download as "dangerous" and immediatly deleated it.
https://ts1.flightplanningonline.co.uk/ ... count.html is the site and they have an email which I have used to send them questions how to do this when you ahve no email cliant but they never reply.
I know I can fax the printed out form in but thats not the point, I though we were trying to make this a easy to use system. has anybody else found a way round this issue or is it just me in the whole world with this problem.
Cheers,
Kelvin

This whole thing is a shambles. Weekend before last we were three and a half hours late taking off for Tannheim due to problems filing a flight plan, this meant that we ran out of daylight over ground that was over 8000 ft.
Wonderfull safety .
What was wrong with the old system? We could flight plan by telephone right across France and Germany.
I suspect this new system will lead to lots of people not bothering , and in typical CAA fashion will have a detrimental effect on safety / security.

Kelvin,
I have to admit that I am a complete convert to the AFPEx system and believe it's much better than having to use the obsolete fax machine.
Have you tried phoning the helpline? It's very different to most helplines in that they really do try to help!
The application form, as you have found out, needs an email client to operate with but someone I know got round not having one by sending an email to [email protected] with the heading "AFPEx Individual Applicant Details" and the following in the body of the email:-
Title=Mr
Name=John
Surname=Smith
Position=N/A
Email_Address=[email protected]
CompanyOperator=
CompanyNumber=N/A
AddressLine1=10 Which Place
AddressLine2=Nowhere
AddressLine3=
Town=Whichtown
County=UK
Postcode=AB1 2CD
HomeAirfield=Elstree
HomeAirfieldICAO=N/A
PPL_Number=PP1234564
PPL_Expiry=01/01/2010

Primary_Phone_Number=01234 123456
Secondary_Phone_Number=
Tertiary_Phone_Number=

Needless to say you would have to alter the information after the equals sign to your own details.

Hi John,
Yes, I tried sending a email as you described to the flightplanning address but got no reply, so I tried again and also got no reply so I wrote them a email and ......yep got no reply.
So today I played around with trying to understand why the work machine was so against the down load and worked that out hence tried again.
Still no reply to my personal email so I am going to guess that I will have to ring their help desk eventually to learn what they have against me?
I guess I could fax the printout I made of the email but this seems a bit silly when the idea is to make it more computerised and they tell me they prefer to not have them faxed as it means somebody has to manually fill it in. I guess somebody spending 10 minutes doing that is better than the several hours I have spent mucking around.
Cheers,
