Just spoken to a friend with a Woodcomp Prop who has been advised not to fly due to reliability issues. No message in the engineering section? Is there a problem? There were aircraft flying around at the weekend with this type of prop.

Woodcomp Prop issue?
Moderators: John Dean, Moderator
There is a problem with the internal components of SOME of the 2 blade SR3000 variable pitch props. Mine failed without warning after only 100 hours due to fractured gears. I am awaiting news from Woodcomp as to whether it is OK to rebuild with the stronger gears fitted to the 2 bladers that have been sold here recently. The type pf gears fitted can be established by removing the prop and examining the backplate. Graham Smith, the former Sportcruiser dealer, who is a Woodcomp trained engineer, knows what to look for.
It does not affect other woodcomp props such as the 3 blade SR3000 VP prop.

Blade departure
I did read of a blade coming off in Australia I think, maybe NZ. Kinda put me off the concept and been happy with a single lump of wood ever since.
