Prop indexing

Post by cardiffrob » Sat Jun 19, 2010 11:22 am

Nothing found using the search function

Re the VW engine. When putting the prop on is there a recommended method for locating the prop with regards the crank journals? At the moment it has the prop horizontal when at TDC on the cylinders which also makes it handy for swinging from the rear of the prop. Is there any tech info that suggests either of the other 2 possible indexes? I have another 'ground running' prop which has a cut-out on the hub face so that it can only fit at 120 degrees to my current position and I'd have to carve a tiny bit out of it.

Rob, I think the only requirement is that the prop is in a convenient and safe position when you swing it, taking account of how tall you are and how high the hub is. My prop is also horizontal at TDC.

Thanks. I had worried that there might be some sort of 'harmonics' problem if it wasn't at the same position.

Cheers
