Hello all,
Im back in after a 7-year lapse.Couldn't stay away, really.
Now, what is the optimum carburettor for an 1834 VW? The one I'm familiar with has a Solex 32 PHN.It was built without air filtration of any kind so what would be a good filter to fit to it? It's fitted to a VP-2 and appears to be as per plans, without an air filter and with a short induction pipe to the carb, which is on top of the engine. Also, what is the optimum oil pressure? Our one typically shows about 40psi at start-up and then drops to and stays at about 10psi in operation.
last thing, what is the optimum exhaust pipe length for an 1834?
regards
Mick

Sounds like your hot running pressure is rather low?
One opinion of the ultimate carb for an 1834 is a Stromberg CD150 (Barry Smith recommended this to me). As for exhaust length, there is a formula for ultimate length from exhaust seat to exit, but there are so many variables to consider, weight becomes the governing factor generally and most aero VW's seem to have 4 stubs, with a variety of silencing options!
As the aero engine is supposed to run at a constant rpm, achieving the best compromise of power/torque/consumption has to be the main aim.
