Rans S6 fuel tanks

Post by iloveflying » Mon Nov 17, 2014 3:17 pm

Hi, I have a Rans S6 ESD XL with the fuselage tank. I am considering fitting an extra wing tank as a header tank. Has anyone done this?

I cannot comment on the S6, but I would not have thought it practical to use a wing tank as a header tank. Aux tank for extending range maybe.

Header tanks are usually close to the engine, into which the other tank(s) feed.

I saw a message from Les Field which said that he had seen this done on a couple of aircraft. Maybe calling it a header tank is incorrect. Maybe they have to be switchable?

Friends of mine have done this and retained the back tank. Got all the paperwork etc. If
you PM me I can pass on their details

Don't you just love it when you post a question and someone pops straight up with the answer! Apparently I can add either single or double wing tanks to my Rans. Should increase the range a bit!
