Re: Prekote Surface Pretreatment
I have been using Lechler LS153 (also listed as 29153) but will change to the gloss version for the outside. Applied the Prekote from hand held spray bottle and then scrubbed with purple scotchbrite. Rinse, while still wet, with tap water. Prekote instructions advise painting within 24 hours.

Re: Prekote Surface Pretreatment
I am using Prekote on my Groppo Trail before painting with a single coat Lechler two pack poly designed to be used without primer. Painted all the internal surfaces and was applied mostly by roller, a bit by brush and some by airbrush. Have also tested a Rustoleum paint, but it reacted to petrol. Ne...

Re: Aircraft Painting
Had another look at HVLP. The first question from the man in the spray gun shop was "what is the free air cfm of your compressor?" All their HVLP guns need a minimum of 9 "free air" cfm; a lot more than a comparable conventional gun. That meant I'd need another, bigger, compressor with 13.5 to 14 "d...

Re: Aircraft Painting
I asked Stewart Systems, who make a two pack water borne polyurethane, "how much paint will I need for an aeroplane slightly smaller than a Cub(Groppo Trail), plus a bit to practice". They suggested three and a half gallons. Thirteen and a bit litres seemed an awful lot, it's over twice the amount I...

Aircraft Painting
How many litres of top coat (grey over grey primer) would it take to spray a Cub?

U-Pol Degreaser
I have U-Pol System 20 slow degreaser for cleaning aluminium sheet. It is implied that once the surface is dry it can be painted, but I have not found a definite statement saying it can. I am also wondering if it can be used with a scotch-brite pad to clean and key at the same time.

I'm building a Groppo Trail. I have the space in my garage to make a spray booth. I used an airless spray gun to paint a large american fridge many years ago. The idea of using a water based paint is that, if sprayed, forced air breathing apparatus is not required, a cheaper extractor fan can be use...

Paint
I want to do my own painting(all 6061 ali) so am exploring the options; spray, roller and brush. Experimented with Rustoleum Combicolour but petrol made it soft, and where it got underneath a deliberate scratch it wrinkled. Has anyone used Stewart System paints? I'm drawn to their one pack primer an...

Prekote Surface Pretreatment
Anyone used PreKote surface pretreatment? I like what I've read about it but wonder which primer to use. I plan to use a two part acrylic topcoat applied by roller.

Air Drills
The compressor I'll be using does 14cu.ft./min. at 150psi with a 50lt. receiver.I've seen a Chicago drill that has a 10mm(keyed)chuck, 380w(0.5hp) motor, 4200rpm, teasing trigger, is reversible and weighs just over a kilo. Overkill? Too heavy? Keyless chuck? Saw a lovely drill that turned out to be ...
