Re: LAA Pilot Refresher

Congratulations on an excellent publication. I also really like the idea that it can be easily updated and redistributed.

Seems they don't get the CD anymore as it is supposed to be on-line? Anyone know where from, I have tried the AIS website? There is also the question of copyright. Perhaps that is why Cub no longer updates. Cub's day job takes up the majority of his spare time but some updated files are in the pipe...

Introduction of Stansted TMZ - 24 September 2009

As the result of an overriding safety concern in relation to number and severity of airspace infringements in the vicinity of London Stansted Airport, the establishment of two Transponder Mandatory Zones (TMZ) has been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and will take effect on 24 Septemb...

Hello Jonathan, Many thanks for your e mail. Bad news I'm afraid is that after deliberation the CAA have decided not to give us Rule 14 exemption as FISO's, I had understood Kemble had such exemptions with FISO's but was told by the CAA this was not the case. Landing on 03L and crossing upwind of 0...

I was really pleased to read that an exemption to Rule 14 appears in the Briefing for the Sywell event, particulalry as I had re-iterated to me by a person from SRG, at another location recently, a FISO would be obligated to report any observed breach of Rule 14 via the Mandatory Occurrence Reportin...

“Flying machine or glider shall not land on a runway at an aerodrome if there are other aircraft on the runway” That cannot be correct. As an ex glider pilot at a hill site, the wind stops, everybody lands. I have participated in 30 + gliders landing on the same patch of grass when the wind stopped...

I have read this thread with interest and a little concern. I am an Air Traffic Controller who spends a percentage of my paid employment sat in front of a radar screen talking to big jets but I have also spent the past 25 years volunteering at various special events, airshows, rallies etc. providing...

Would this prevent a few or a lot of infringements?

A £150 moving map GPS with CAA (NATS) charts and a detailed VFR airspace definition including glider sites, minor airfields, microlight sites, danger areas and parachute DZs which generated warnings on approaching and alarms on entering CAS. The package would come with a free monthly update service....

I want to take a Permit J-3 Cub to Texel

I want to take a Piper J-3 Cub operated on a permit to Texel for for the Taildragger Fly-In. I nearly got there about 4 years ago except for a bit of a northerly gale but everything was very straight forward and operating through France, Belgium and the Netherlands was easy. The vagueries of operati...

Now I'm really baffled at this proposal. If this is what is being proposed then there is nothing to worry about it at all. It just drives a coach and horses through the need for a TMZ. Of course, they could say that there are too many non-TX aircraft in the zone so bog- off somewhere else. I don't ...

Jon, are you guaranteeing clearance into a TMZ without a transponder? Have to say I think the Class D approach is wishful thinking. Stansted is not overly helpful now, believing they will fund additional controllers for the 'new VFR' bits is a bit like believing in the tooth fairy. The word 'guaran...
